Cachorros De Juan Villarreal - Forum Universal de las Culturas, Monterrey 2007
Oct., 21, 2007
http://www.elmananarey.com.mx/reynosa/html/49260_0_1_0_C.html
19/09/2007 anavidad

Have you a question for "The Accordion Guru"?
Oct., 21, 2007
The Accordion Guru pictured in Recoaro Terme UKAO are pleased to announce the introduction of "The Accordion Guru" to our growing team. The Guru will answer any accordion related questions in his own unique way! Please send your questions via email to :- This e-mail address is being protected from spam bots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it Do you have a question for the "Accordion Guru"?A recent question from Willi in Herts.(via the UKAO forum) "Want to play 9ths on the accordion basses? one way is to play a 6th,these are quite accessible, A9 play Em6 [one button up].For those not sure play the Em button the 6th is the Csharp above the A button.there is an alternative, more complex play A major button with the Em button, this is a rule of thumb because you will get a different inversion.Learn both and choose the one that suits the music, choose a suitable register though, not too strong or it will sound somewhat muddy." --- What advice has the Accordion Guru? "Want to play 9ths on the accordion basses?" The correct answer is - It is possible to play chords of the 9th or greater, only on a free bass accordion, it cannot possibly be done on a Stradella instrument. The Stradella bass system cannot even produce an interval of an 8th, therefore it is not possible to play any chord requiring an interval greater than a 7th on any Stradella bass system, in fact it's not even possible to produce more than two genuine 7th chords on any Stradella system bass. It will depend on the pitch range of the Stradella bass. For example, if the pitch range is C to B, it will be possible to produce a 7th chord on the buttons C and C sharp ONLY, all the other 7th chord buttons will not be able to produce an interval of a min 7th above C or C sharp, so a 7th chord is not what the accordion will produce on any button other than C or C sharp. If there are readers out there want to know precisely what is being sounded, I can tell them, but that’s another article, for another day. "One way is to play a 6th" All 9th chords are extensions of the 7th chord, so in the case of C 9th the pitches required are :- 1st - Maj 3rd - Per 5th - Min 7th - Maj 9th . The writer is telling everybody that one way to do this is to play a 6th, if he plays a 7th chord button and adds a 6th, such a cacophony of sound will ensue, that it will make my dog howl the house down! Ex. The pitches required for the chord of C9th, are C-E-G-Bb-D The writer is suggesting that you play the C7th and add a 6th, which means that you do not play the D, which IS the 9th and play a 6th, which is an A. - The Accordion Guru

Luigi Frisina - new Cd released!
Oct., 5, 2007
Dear UKAO, I come from PerthWestern Australia and wish to introduce myself via the UKAO and the internet to my new web page www.luigifrisinamusic.com and the release of my second CD “Dizzie Fingers”. I hope you find time to explore and enjoy some of the samples of my music. Any persons who are interested in purchasing my new CD can do so on-line. In Perth we used to have an Accordion Club for a short period of time but could not hold it together, so it was disbanded. In Perth we have a small handful of really good players in the age bracket 50-70 years but no new interest or young ones learning the instrument which is a real pity. Hope to hear from you one day, Kind regards, Luigi Frisina - This e-mail address is being protected from spam bots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it Dizzy Fingers 1. Garage Disco 2. Morley College News
Oct., 5, 2007
Hi Folks, Just to remind you that Accordions at Morley has its first meeting of the academic year on Friday (5th October), 6.30 for 7.00 as usual. You will have a chance to see the video of the lunchtime concert we did in July. Julie has asked if you could please bring back all your band/group music. She is reorganising it, and there is no sense in people hanging on to odd parts that we are no longer playing. (It takes a long time to photocopy additional parts, apart from the waste of the world's resources!) As you know, we have a masterclass and concert from Oleg Sharov the following Friday 12th October. Hope to see you! Neil Sanders This e-mail address is being protected from spam bots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it View Larger Map

Report - Gordon Glenn @ Middlesbrough Concert Success!
Oct., 5, 2007
Gordon Glenn at The Accordion Workshop 8th Sep '07 - GORDON GLENN at the Accordion Workshop Stainton Memorial Hall Middlesbrough on 8th Sept '07. Tom Baines, who organised and compered the concert, introduced Gordon on his third visit to the club. Supporting Gordon from the group were Les Kerridge solo, Lee Taylor solo, David Rodway and Olive Rose and Rob and Margaret Trigg duets and Tom Baines Barry Welburn Campbell Davidson and David Armstrong played a quartet. Gordon took the stage with a classical tango,a Harry Hussey jazzed up version of "don't blame me" leading on to his arrangement of Rodrigo's " Concierto de Aranjuez" normally written for guitar/orchestra Gordon moved smoothly on to negro spirituals, and a group favorite "under Paris skies,". Umbrella man in Paris arranged by his late friend Glyn Evans provided a great French atmosphere. He played several Charles Magnante's arrangements "what a difference a day makes" and "yours" with a great swing sound. His final number "Dance of the Comedians"brought the house down on a truly profesional performance. He will be welcomed back in the near future.
